Last year as a sophomore, Cory hit for the power that the coaching staff had been expecting from him since he got to Penn State. That came a year after he hit for average as a freshman but did not quite have all the power as he adjusted to the college game. This year, as a junior, he will look to put both the power and the average together and have a breakout season that should lead to big numbers and his name being called on draft day, not to mention potential All-Conference, All-Region and All-American honors. A mainstay in the lineup and at first base for the last two years, the son of the head coach will once again be the same this year as he figures to have plenty of RBI opportunities hitting next to Joe Blackburn in the middle of the lineup. After hitting .306 as a freshman, his average dipped a bit last year but he co-led the team in home runs with five, including one of the most clutch and momentum-swinging home runs of the year against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament. After Penn State had squandered a three-run lead by giving up three unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to the host Wolverines, Wine came right back in the top of the tenth and hit a solo home run to put the Nittany Lions right back up and ultimately knock out Michigan from the tournament.
