Coquese Washington Selected to WBCA Board of Directors
Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington is one of three people elected to the 29-member Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Board of Directors for the 2008 season, it was announced by WBCA President Sherri Coale. Joining Washington, whose three-year term begins with the July 31 Board of Directors meeting, as first-term board members are Hartford coach Jennifer Rizzoti and Northern Illinois coach Carol Owens. The Lady Lions have been selected to participate in the Third Annual Maggie Dixon Classic at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008. Penn State will face off against 2008 Final Four participant and five-time national champion Connecticut in the second game of the doubleheader, while Army and Rutgers square off in the first game of the day. The inaugural tournament will be held at the Penn State Blue Course on Friday, August 15 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Centre County Women's Resource Center. Read More >>

The inaugural tournament will be held at the Penn State Blue Course on Friday, August 15 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Centre County Women's Resource Center.

The Lady Lions' Second Annual Think Pink Day was held on Sunday, Feb. 10 versus Iowa. The Lady Lions raised more than $30,000 for breast cancer research, which surpasses the $20,000 raised at the inaugural event in 2007. Portions of the money raised through THINK PINK Day will be donated to the following organizations: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

The show, which is produced by Penn State Public Broadcasting (WPSU) in conjunction with the athletic department, takes viewers on an all-access tour of the Lady Lion program including road trips, locker room access, feature stories, game highlights and player interviews.

Many former Lady Lions have found success on the professional level. Penn State has had 11 players drafted in the WNBA and have had 10 players with successful WNBA careers. There are currently four Lady Lions in the WNBA, the most among Big Ten teams, including 2007 WNBA Champion Kelly Mazzante of the Phoenix Mercury, the San Antonio Silverstars's Helen Darling, Tanisha Wright of the Seattle Storm and the Los Angeles Sparks' Kam Gissendanner.
