MADISON, Wis. – No. 3 Penn State Women’s Volleyball saw its 15-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-13) loss to No. 7 Wisconsin in a Big Ten match Saturday at the UW Field House.
The Nittany Lions dropped to 23-2 overall and 13-1 in the conference. They now sit one match back of Nebraska at the top of the Big Ten standings. The Badgers upped their record to 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the conference.
Camryn Hannah had 10 kills for Penn State, reaching double-digits for the seventh-straight match. Gillian Grimes totaled 11 digs to give her double-digits in 13 straight matches.
Jess Mruzik was strong at the service line for the Nittany Lions, tallying three aces to give her 98 for her career. She added nine kills and five digs.
Wisconsin hit .465, led by Anna Smrek with 13 kills, seven digs, and five blocks. Sarah Franklin hit .419 with 13 kills and eight digs. The Badgers improved to 16-50 in the all-time series with the Nittany Lions. Twelve of those 16 wins came in Madison.
Each of Penn State’s two losses this season came on the road to top-10 teams in front of sold-out crowds.
Penn State returns to Happy Valley for its next match as the Nittany Lions welcome Illinois to Rec Hall on Friday at 7 p.m. They follow that with a road match at Maryland on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
