UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Women’s Volleyball added two more weekly awards from the Big Ten following the final matches of the regular season. Izzy Starck was named the Setter of the Week, while Caroline Jurevicius was selected as the Freshman of the Week after the Nittany Lions secured a share of the Big Ten title with wins over Rutgers and No. 2 Nebraska.
Starck is now a five-time Big Ten Setter of the Week in addition to a six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week. She is the first Penn State player since Micha Hancock in 2014 to win the top setter award five times in a season. The latest came after she averaged 11.71 assists, 3.00 blocks, 1.14 blocks, and 1.14 kills per set over the Nittany Lions’ two wins. In the big win over the Huskers, Starck tallied 46 assists, 11 digs, six blocks, and three kills over four sets.
Jurevicius had the best match of her young career while helping Penn State secure the 18th Big Ten title in program history. She went off for a career-high 18 kills on .414 hitting and added two blocks and two digs in a 3-1 win over Nebraska in front of a sold-out crowd Friday at Rec Hall. It was the Nittany Lions' first win over Nebraska since 2018 and the team's first Big Ten title since 2017. The 18 kills easily eclipsed her previous career-high total of 11. Earlier in the week she contributed five kills, three digs, and two blocks in a 3-0 sweep at Rutgers.
Penn State received the No. 3 overall seed and the top seed in its region for the 2024 NCAA Division I Championship. The Nittany Lions open the tournament at Rec Hall against Delaware State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. They enter at 29-2 overall, including a perfect 16-0 record at Rec Hall.
