Men's Tennis' Reiya Hattori Wins Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award

Hattori collected 7-1 record in collegiate debut matches last weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Freshman Reiya Hattori of the Penn State men’s tennis team was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Wednesday.  

 

Hattori played in all four matches in the back-to-back doubleheaders, making his collegiate debut. In his first match against Temple on Saturday, he won a huge 6-0, 6-2 singles match that helped put the Nittany Lions over the Owls, 4-3. 

 

Later that day, he swept his opponents, winning 6-1 in the doubles match, which helped win the doubles point for Penn State, and then capturing an impressive 6-0, 6-2 score at third singles versus Fordham. 

 

On Sunday, he won a quick 6-1 doubles match, helping the Nittany Lions clinch the doubles point against Quinnipiac. He continued to put on a stellar performance and win his singles match 6-4, 6-3. 

 

To close off the weekend, Hattori won yet again, 6-1, in the doubles portion to help Penn State claim the doubles point. In his singles match, he blew past his opponent winning 6-2, 6-1, which clinched the win for Penn State over Bucknell. 

 

Hattori put on entertaining matches all weekend, marking his collegiate debut with a magnificent 7-1 record.
