UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State softball sophomore designated player Brooke Klosowicz added additional acclaim to her resume on Thursday afternoon, as the Johnsburg, Illinois, native was named the No. 6 utility in college softball in a release by Softball America.
Klosowicz is already off to a breakout start to her second collegiate season, pacing the Nittany Lion roster in a variety of offensive statistics including batting average (.484), OPS (1.489), hits (45), doubles (16), total bases (89), OBP (.532) and slugging (.957). Klosowicz maintains the longest active reached-base streak in Division I softball after reaching safely in 32-straight games, beginning with PSU’s second game of the season against Texas Tech and continuing into this weekend’s action in Happy Valley. Klosowicz’s 32-game reached-base streak stands alone in second place for the longest reached-base streak this season. Klosowicz also boasts the longest hitting streak for the Nittany Lions in 2025, logging at least one base hit in a 14-game stretch beginning with Nicholls on February 21 and concluding with the second game of B1G Softball x Devon Park.
Penn State’s star sophomore ranks prominently in both the Big Ten Conference and Division I in a variety of traditional and advanced statistics, notably leading all of college softball with 16 doubles through this point in the season. Klosowicz stands alone atop the Big Ten leaderboard with her 16 doubles and is also first nationally in doubles per game with 0.48, simultaneously boasting the 12th-best slugging percentage in all of college softball with a .957 mark in the statistic. Klosowicz is third in the Big Ten and 11th in Division I in terms of batting average, hitting at a .484 clip while registering 45 hits, the eighth-most in the B1G. Additionally, she stands in 11th place among all collegiate hitters in terms of weighted on-base average (.649) and weighted runs created-plus (259), further underscoring her essential role as the driving force behind PSU’s offensive success in the 2025 season.
In terms of individual accolades this season, Klosowicz became the 17th recipient of the Big Ten Player of the Week award in Penn State history on Monday, March 10, becoming just the fourth Nittany Lion to earn that recognition since 2015. Klosowicz joined a trio of former Nittany Lions in 2022 recipient Ally Kurland, 2023 recipient Lexie Black and 2024 honoree Kaitlyn Morrison as the PSU student-athletes to earn B1G Player of the Week status under the direction of head coach Clarisa Crowell. The sophomore star was also named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament Team earlier in the season, with Klosowicz initiating her breakout campaign with an impressive set of performances against nationally ranked opposition in Clearwater.
Softball America’s midseason player position rankings feature 15 student-athletes designated at either a utility or designated player, with Klosowicz joining a pair of West Coast Big Ten Conference student-athletes on the list. UCLA star Savannah Pola picked up the No. 4 utility ranking, while Oregon standout freshman Stefini Ma’ake delivered the No. 13 ranking in the category. Texas’ Katie Stewart, Araknsas’ Courtney Day, Oklahoma’s Ella Parker, Pola, and BYU’s Ilove’a Brittingham precede Klosowicz in the national rankings. Klosowicz boasts the best individual batting average and strongest OPS among all ranked athletes in the category, further cementing her impact as one of the most dominant individual performers in the college game.
With Klosowicz anchoring the Nittany Lion offense, Penn State softball is slated to return to Big Ten Conference competition after a weeklong hiatus from league action, with the Blue & White set to host the border-foe Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a three-game set this weekend from Nittany Lion Softball Park & Beard Field. The Nittany Lions will battle Rutgers in a doubleheader on Friday, April 4, with action slated to begin at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (ET), with game three of the series set for either Saturday or Sunday, April 5 or 6 at a time to be determined. All three games will stream live to a worldwide audience of authenticated subscribers via B1G+ and the B1G+ app on connected devices.
