Men's Tennis Prepped for First Road Matches of the Season

The Nittany Lions will take on Yale on Saturday Feb. 8, Buffalo on Sunday Feb. 9

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Penn State men’s tennis team is set to hit the road early this season to take on Yale and Buffalo in New Haven, Conn. The squad will face Yale on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+. To finish the weekend, the Blue and White will face Buffalo on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will be hosted at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. 

 

THE NITTANY LIONS 

Penn State started their season off with a 4-0 record coming off back-to-back doubleheader wins against Temple, Fordham, Quinnipiac and Bucknell at home.  

New faces took the court, with freshmen Reiya Hattori and Marcus Schoeman putting on outstanding matches and helping the Nittany Lions clinch the victory over their opponents. Hattori earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

Returning players Sam Bossem, Loren Byers and Charl Morgan all stepped up and added key matches that helped seal the wins for Penn State. 

 

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS 

Yale welcomes the Nittany Lions with a 1-2 record, with losses against Notre Dame and Penn. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 1990. Yale holds a 6-3 record over Penn State. 

 

EYEING BUFFALO 

The Bulls are currently 0-1 with a road loss against Miami. Buffalo looks to host Duquesne at home before travelling to New Haven to face Yale and the Nittany Lions. Penn State has a 5-0 record against Buffalo, with their last meeting occurring in 2020. 

 

UP NEXT 

Following this weekend, the Nittany Lions look to host another back-to-back double header weekend at the Indoor Tennis Center. On Saturday, Feb. 8, the squad will face St. Bonaventure at 8 a.m. and Saint Joseph’s at 3 p.m. The Blue and White then take on Toledo at 10 a.m. and Mount St. Mary’s at 4 p.m. both on Sunday, Feb. 9.
