Five Wrestlers Claim Senior Freestyle and U20 Titles at 2025 U.S. Open

Casey Cunningham was honored as USA Wrestling Freestyle Coach of the Year at event.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Five members of the Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team/Penn State Olympic Regional Training Center won titles at the 2025 U.S. Open in Las Vegas this weekend. Three wrestlers claimed crowns in the Senior division and two in the U20 division.

In addition, Penn State assistant Casey Cunningham was honored as the USA Wrestling Freestyle Coach of the Year at the event.

Six Penn State/Penn State RTC individuals competed in the senior division, with three winning titles.

True freshman Luke Lilledahl won the U.S. Open crown at 57 kg. Lilledahl went 4-0 with three tech falls in his title run, including a 10- tech over Liam Cronin in the championship match.

 

Sophomore Mitchell Mesenbrink won the Open title at 74 kg. Mesenbrink went 5-0, all by technical fall. He rolled to a 16-6 tech over David Carr in the championship match.

The Penn State RTC’s Kyle Snyder won the Open championship at 97 kg. Snyder went 4-0 with four straight tech falls. He downed Jonathan Aiello 11-0 in the final bout.

 

The Penn State RTC’s Kyle Dake went 4-1 up at 86 kg for the event. Dake rolled to the finals with four straight tech falls before losing in the title bout to place second.

Senior Beau Bartlett placed fifth at 65 kg. Bartlet went 3-2, including a tech fall and a 7-1 win over Carter Young in the fifth place match.

Senior Sam Beckett competed at 79 kg. Beckett went 3-2 with a fall.

Four Nittany Lion true freshmen competed in the U20 Division, with two winning championships.

Connor Mirasola won the 2025 U.S. Open U20 crown at 92 kg. Mirasola went 5-0 overall, posting four straight tech falls to advance to the finals and then won a 5-1 bout in the title match to win the championship.

Cole Mirasola won the 2025 U.S. Open U20 title at 125 kg. Mirasola went 5-0 overall with three tech falls, advancing to the finals with three techs and a decision before posting a 7-5 win in the title bout.

Joe Sealey finished as 2025 U.S. Open U20 Runner-up at 74 kg. Sealey reeled off five straight tech falls to advance to the finals before dropping a 5-2 decision in the title bout. Sealey went 5-1 overall to finish in second place.

 

Brock Weiss went 2-2 at 70 kg, including one tech fall.

In all, the 10 Penn State/Penn State RTC wrestlers went 40-8 overall with an outstanding 31 technical falls or pins. Eight of the ten placed in the top five with seven finalists and five champions.
