UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State softball concludes its 61st regular season this weekend, as the Nittany Lions play host to the Big Ten Conference-newcomer Washington Huskies in a three-game series the weekend of Friday through Sunday, May 2 through 4, at Nittany Lion Softball Park and Beard Field.

Due to inclement weather forecasted in Central Pennsylvania, the dates and times for this weekend's series against Washington have been altered. Penn State will battle the Huskies in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. (ET) on Friday, with the second game scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m. (ET). Game three will be contested on Saturday or Sunday, May 3 or 4, at a time to be mutually determined by both coaching staffs and Penn State Athletics events personnel.

The weekend finale will serve as the team’s Senior Day presented by the Penn State Alumni Association, with PSU set to honor Meagan Ricks, Mady Volpe, Haylie Brunson, Lydia Coleman, Lydia Spalding and Maddie Gordon in a pregame ceremony. As always, fans of all ages are encouraged to attend to take part in a family-friendly weekend of college softball action, including poster giveaways, autograph opportunities and the Penn State Softball Dino Race in the fourth inning of each game.

QUICK HITS

Sophomore designated player Brooke Klosowicz added to her impressive list of individual accolades in a release by Softball America on Thursday morning, with the second-year standout picking up the No. 6 utility ranking for the second consecutive month. Klosowicz leads the Nittany Lions with a .435 batting average this season and needs just two RBI to set the PSU single season record at 50. PSU returns to action following its first sweep of the Maryland Terrapins since the 2016 campaign, with the Nittany Lions scoring at least 10 runs in every game of a B1G weekend series sweep for the first time in program history. The Nittany Lions booked double-digit runs in three-straight games for the first time since 2016, and additionally broke its single season run record and RBI record last weekend in College Park.

ON THE RECORDS

Already one of the most prolific offenses in program history, the 2025 Penn State roster all but finalized its place as the greatest offensive unit in the team’s 61 varsity seasons with another historic milestone last Friday at Maryland. The Blue & White entered the series opener against the Terrapins needing just three runs to tie and four to surpass the single-season program record of 289 set by the 2016 team. Penn State responded emphatically with 10 runs in the contest, with a two-run home run by senior right fielder Haylie Brunson marking the history-breaking tally in the top of the fifth inning. Penn State’s offense already owns single season records in home runs (70), RBI (287), runs scored (322) and total bases (715). The Nittany Lions need six doubles to tie and seven to surpass the single-season record from a year ago, while the team remains on pace to set the single-season batting average record, clearing the record of .314 from the 2016 campaign by a .020 margin thus far.

Introducing Washington

INTRODUCING THE HUSKIES

Under the leadership of legendary head coaching veteran and 2009 national champion Heather Tarr, the Washington Huskies head to Happy Valley boasting a 32-15 overall record coupled with a 10-8 ledger against Big Ten Conference foes in their inaugural season in the league. Washington is fresh off a tough Big Ten series defeat at home against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, bookending an impressive 10-2, run-rule victory in Saturday’s contest with a 12-8 loss Friday and a 6-0 shutout defeat on Sunday. The Huskies are 2-3 in their last five outings and are looking for their first B1G series win since taking two-of-three off Michigan State on the road the weekend of April 18-20.

The Husky lineup features a quartet of student-athletes batting above .300, with the breakout stardom of freshman infielder Alexis DeBoer highlighting the team. DeBoer, a native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, maintains a .362 batting average and leads the roster in hits (50), home runs (18) RBI (51) and total bases (113). She leads the roster with a 1.264 OPS overall with a 1.191 mark in B1G matchups. Washington has been a force in the circle over the course of the 2025 campaign, with a trio of performers tossing in excess of 72.0 innings while managing a team-wide 2.80 ERA. Sophia Ramuno leads the roster with a 2.23 mark, but Stevie Hansen (2.82) and Morgan Reimer (2.91) are not far behind, with all three performers boasting sub-3.00 ERA’s.

STORY OF THE SERIES

Penn State and Washington prepare for their ninth, 10th and 11th all-time meetings this weekend in Happy Valley, with the Huskies taking seven of the prior eight fixtures since the inaugural contest between the two programs in the 2002 campaign. The teams will challenge one another as conference foes for the first time ever in the first meeting of the two squads since the 2017 season. The Blue & White took the opening meeting in the all-time series on February 22, 2002, mustering a 4-3 win in neutral site action from Columbus, Georgia. Washington has taken each of the last seven contests since in a span from 2005 to 2017.

The Nittany Lions and Huskies will square off in University Park for the first time ever, with the programs set to meet in an on-campus weekend series for the second time overall. PSU last battled with Washington in a three-game weekend series over the weekend of March 8 through 10, 2017. The Huskies hosted PSU in a non-conference weekend series on their Seattle campus in what was the only full weekend series between the two programs ahead of this year’s meeting in Happy Valley. Washington booked wins in all three games via the five-inning run rule.
