Season: Made a significant leap statistically from her sophomore to junior seasons, becoming one of Penn State’s all-around stars in the batter’s box in 2024… Started and played in all 55 games for the Blue & White, one of just four student-athletes to accomplish that feat… Led the Nittany Lions in nearly every statistical category, highlighted by a career-high season in at-bats (179), runs scored (47), hits (60), home runs (13), RBI (41), total bases (117) and slugging percentage (.654)… Added personal career highs in stolen bases (13), on-base percentage (.374), batting average (.335), walks (12), doubles (16) and triples (one)… Ranked third on the roster with a 1.028 OPS… Hit the sixth-most doubles in a single season in PSU history, as well as the fourth-most home runs, eighth-most RBI, fourth-most total bases and third-most runs scored in a single season in program annals… Fielded multiple positions, most notably in the outfield and second base positions, at a .932 rate with 72 putouts and 38 assists.
Rankings: Ranked fourth in the Big Ten and inside the top 50 nationally with 16 doubles… Placed fourth in the B1G with 0.29 doubles per game… Tallied the fifth-most total bases in the Big Ten, placing inside the top 100 in the nation… Recorded the sixth-highest slugging percentage in the Big Ten… Scored the seventh-most runs per game in the B1G with 0.85… Her 13 homers ranked eighth in the Big Ten and inside the top 100 nationally… Finished ninth in the league with 0.24 home runs per game… Registered the 12th-most stolen bases in the conference.
vs. Saint Francis (2/23): Recorded a season-high quartet of assists in the field against the Red Flash. vs. Morgan State (2/24): Had a dominant offensive showing, finishing the second half of the Saturday doubleheader 3-for-4 with a single, triple and solo home run… Amassed a season-high eight total bases with a pair of runs scored. vs. Penn (2/25): Scored a season-high trio of runs in the 12-5 win over the in-state rival Quakers, going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles in the contest. vs. Tarleton (3/3): Was an impressive 3-for-4 at the plate in the win over the Texans, cranking a double with a pair of RBI in the matchup. Cornell (3/15): Went 2-for-3 in the resounding Nittany Lion win, booking a pair of doubles with two runs scored. Indiana (3/23): Finished the series-clinching win with a 2-for-4 line highlighted by an emphatic three-run homer… Added a pair of runs scored. Indiana (3/24): Went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and run scored… Finished with a season-best five putouts in the field. Maryland (3/30): Was 2-for-3 with a home run in the first PSU win of the weekend series. at Ohio State (4/16): Cranked a grand slam home run in the first game of the doubleheader, finishing 2-for-3 overall with a pair of runs scored. at Rutgers (5/3): Was instrumental in the series-opening win, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a homer. NCAA Regional vs. UAlbany (5/18): Was 2-for-4 in Penn State’s elimination game win in the 2024 NCAA Regional, smacking a home run and a double in PSU’s first national postseason appearance since 2011.
2023 • SOPHOMORE SEASON
Awards: Big Ten Distinguished Scholar… Academic All-Big Ten… Easton/NFCA Scholar Athlete.
Season: Booked a breakout sophomore season for the Blue & White, appearing in 34 games and starting 14… Finished the year with career-best marks in every statistical category, highlighted by a trio of home runs, including one for a grand slam… Tallied 13 hits, added 10 RBI and scored 13 runs for PSU… Mustered a .455 slugging percentage, good enough for the fifth-highest mark on the team… Logged a 1.000 fielding percentage.
at Norfolk State (3/4): Went 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts, a season-best mark in the category… Scored a run in PSU’s win. Iowa (3/24): Recorded her first collegiate hit in her only at-bat. Rutgers (4/14): Hit for extra bases for the first time, knocking a double while going 1-for-3 in the first game of the day… Launched a three-run homer for her first collegiate long ball, finishing the nightcap 1-for-3. Rutgers (4/16): Crushed Penn State’s only grand slam of the 2023 campaign, setting a career-high single game mark with four RBI. Bucknell (4/18): Homered for the third straight game… Went 2-for-3 overall and scored a career-high three runs…Added her fourth stolen base of the season. at Purdue (5/6): Matched her season high in putouts with a pair. Big Ten Tournament vs. Indiana (5/11): Put together an impressive performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 overall with a run scored and a pair of doubles.
2022 • FRESHMAN SEASON
Season: Played 20 games and made one pitching appearance... Had nine runs.
vs. Cleveland State (2/12): Scored first career run. vs. No. 12 Oregon (3/4): Appeared in circle in fifth inning... Faced five batters.
HIGH SCHOOL
Played high school softball at Page County High School in Shenandoah, Virginia... Helped the Panthers to regular season and regional championships in both 2018 and 2019... Led the Panthers to both a district and state title as freshman in 2018... Was a two-time Shenandoah District First-Team honoree... Earned Region B Second-Team accolades in 2018... Garnered Regional and All-State First Team awards in 2019... Landed the No. 71 national ranking from Extra Innings Softball... Also played varsity basketball and volleyball for the Panthers... Handled her club softball commitments as a member of the VA Glory organization.
PERSONAL
A native of Shenandoah, Virginia, Maddie Gordon is the youngest child and second daughter of Buck and Megan Gordon... Has a pair of older siblings, a sister, named Kate, and a brother named Tristan... Her father, Buck, played college football and baseball at Bridgewater College before playing in the Cubs’ minor league system after college... Her mother, Megan, played college volleyball and softball at Bridgewater College... Sister, Kate, was an All-American softball player at James Madison who helped guide the Dukes through a historic run in 2021 to the Women’s College World Series... Her brother, Tristan, was a member of the Bridgewater College baseball and football teams during his collegiate career... Her uncle, Mike Gomez, played baseball at the University of Delaware before being drafted into the Philadelphia Phillies organization... Her second cousin, Ken Napaver, attended Penn State University... At Page County High School, Gordon was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society... She expects to graduate from Penn State University in the spring of 2025 with a double major in Recreation, Park and Tourism management as well as Human Development and Family Studies... At PSU, she is involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the Athletic Department Leadership Institute and Penn State Christian Athletes... She looks forward to a career in sports in the future, where she can focus on giving back to the community... In her spare time, she enjoys art and spending time outdoors.
