OUR HISTORY

OUR HISTORY

Pioneers of Progress, Carrying the Torch
Penn State was one of the first universities to elevate women’s teams to varsity status, even prior to the enactment of Title IX. The first varsity competition took place in 1964 and nine intercollegiate women’s teams were created prior to 1972, the year Title IX was passed.

Today, we carry the torch of that legacy, determined to uphold the values of equality, empowerment and excellence. As one of the nation's leading institutions, Penn State has embraced the power of women, providing opportunities that transcend the playing field.

Join us as we..
  • Champion the cause
  • Celebrate the victories
  • Pave the way for generations of extraordinary women to come

Be part of the winning team that celebrates, elevates, and engages decades of successful Penn State women, leaving a mark on the history of Penn State and the world of women's athletics.
