Women’s Tennis Travels to Yale

The program is off to its first 3-0 start since the 2018-19 season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (3-0) is set for its first road trip of the 2025 spring campaign when it goes against Yale (1-2) on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 9:30 a.m. The Nittany Lions will make the trek to New Haven, Conn. boasting a 3-0 record for the first time since the 2018-19 season.  

 

In Case You Missed it 

  • Penn State pummeled Saint Francis 7-0 on Friday, Jan. 24 at the Indoor Tennis Center. It was the second time in three duals that the team did not drop a set. 
  • The Nittany Lions took the doubles point with two victories. No. 46 Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima defeated Diana Zuba and Dasha Chichkina 6-2 on court one. Sophomore Jordina Cegarra and freshman Patricia Grigoras made quick work on court two with a 6-2 win over Kelly Dowuona and Kally Kadzinski.  
  • Dorner, a junior, bested Zuba on court one singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. 
  • Playing at the two spot, Grigoras took her match against Chichkina, 6-3, 6-3. 
  • Freshman Jelena Vico defeated Dowuona 6-4, 6-1 on court three.  
  • Senior Yvonne Zuffova won 6-3, 6-3 on court four against Sara Jankovic. 
  • On court five, Cegarra made her singles debut with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Kadzinski. 
  • Freshman Maria Daciana Ciubotaru improved to 3-0 on the season with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win against Morgan Tuffs on court six.  

Scouting Report 

  • Yale is 1-2 on the season with a season-opening victory against Quinnipiac, 7-0, and 4-0 losses to Vanderbilt and Michigan. The Bulldogs Boston University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.  
  • Sophomore Shyla Aggarwal, ranked the No. 99 singles player by ITA, is 1-1 on the season. Last year, Dorner defeated her 6-2, 6-2. 
  • The Bulldogs return two All-Ivy selections in sophomores Orly Oglivy (first team) and Mirabelle Brettkelly (second team). Zuffova beat Brettkelly 7-5, 6-3 a season ago. 

Series History 

  • Penn State will play Yale for the eighth time in history with the Bulldogs leading the series 5-2. 
  • The teams met last year, a 4-3 victory for the Yale.
