OJAI, Calif. - No. 12 seed Penn State Women’s Tennis 14-10 (5-8 B1G) dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 5 seed Wisconsin 18-4 (10-3 B1G) in the first round of the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the Ojai Valley Tennis Club at Libbey Park in Ojai, California.
Wisconsin took the doubles point. On court two, Jordina Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras fell to Taylor Cataldi and Ekaterina Ivanova, 6-3. At the third spot, Deanna Lasorda and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru dropped a 6-2 decision to Parker Christensen and Kaja Jacobson.
Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima trailed No. 48 Maria Sholokhova and Ariel Johnson 5-3 on court one when the match went unfinished.
The Badgers won three straight singles matches to clinch the contest. On court one, Dorner came up short against No. 9 Sholokhova, 6-1, 6-2. At the two spot, Uchijima fell to Cataldi, 6-2, 6-3. Lasorda dropped to Ellison Reynoldson, 6-3, 6-0, on court six.
Cegarra took the first set against Johnson on court four. The match went unfinished at 6-3, 2-4. Other unfinished matches include Grigoras and Ivanova on court three and Ciubotaru and Rangan on court five.
