LAST TIME OUT

The Nittany Lions are coming off a strong split-squad weekend at the conclusion of the Raleigh Relays and LSU Battle on the Bayou where they recorded 14 personal records performances and five top-10 program history marks this past weekend.

At the Raleigh Relays, Florence Caron began her outdoor regular season by becoming the new school record holder in the women’s 10,000-meter, completing the race in fifth place at 32:26.52. Caron’s time replaces current assistant coach Kara Millhouse’s time of 32:57.33 set in the 2012 outdoor season.

In the men’s 5000-meter, Nick Sloff moved into the No. 4 spot in program history after he finished 33rd in 13:49.03 to set a new PR.

At the LSU Battle on the Bayou, Ajani Dwyer continued his phenomenal freshman season after he collected two top-five program history marks in the 100 and 200-meter races, leading to Big Ten Track and Field Men’s Freshman of the Week honors. Dwyer ran the 100-meter race in 10.27 to take the No. 5 spot in program history before running a 20.55 in the 200-meter race to earn the No. 2 spot in school history.

The women’s 1500-meter race saw four Penn State athletes place within the top 10. Kileigh Kane and Maddie Ullom finished second and third, respectively. Kane ran at 4:13.74, just shy of tying her No. 2 program mark while Ullom replaced her own No. 4 mark with a time of 4:13.92. Allison Johnson finished seventh (4:17.15, PR) and Ada Rand rounded out the top 10 (4:19.31).

Both the men’s and women’s teams commanded the 800-meter races. Olivier Desmeules placed third with a time of 1:48.14 in his first outdoor competition of the season. Allon Clay placed right behind Desmeules, recording a time of 1:48.24. Freshman Tayissa Buchanan placed sixth (2:06.28) and Kane placed 11th (2:09.02), both of which were PRs.

In the throws circle, Gabi Deglau placed fourth in the women’s hammer throw with a launch of 56.19m to set a PR. Collin Burkhart and Nathan Williams struck again for the second consecutive week in the hammer throw, with Burkhart placing fifth (65.40m) and Williams placing seventh (63.43m).
