Mishka Levy Named Big Ten Volleyball Player of the Week

State College, Pa., August 28, 2000 - Penn State sophomore Mishka Levy (Stafford, Texas) has been named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week league officials announced this afternoon.

Levy was the Nittany Lions' top player during the opening week of the season which saw Penn State drop a 3-2 decision to No. 1 UCLA, before rebounding with a 3-1 win over No. 9 Florida during the 2000 State Farm/NACWAA Volleyball Classic in Gainesville, Fla.

In the Lions' loss to the Bruins, Levy posted a career-high 25 kills and helped Penn State push the match into a fifth game with seven winners in the fourth set. Against the host Gators, Levy recorded a match-high 20 kills while adding a career-high 14 digs, four blocks and an ace.

For her efforts at the NACWAA, Levy was honored with all-tournament team status.

The middle hitter currently leads Penn State with 5.00 kills per game and is averaging 2.56 digs on the young season.

Levy is the first player to to be honored by the conference this season.

The No. 2 Nittany Lions return to action this weekend when they travel to Austin, Texas, to take part in the Texas Invitational. Penn State will face Arkansas on Friday, Sept. 1 at 6:00 p.m. (ET), before wrapping up play on Saturday, September 2 versus host-school No. 18 Texas at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
