STATE COLLEGE, Pa. May 18, 2001 - Despite overcast weather on the links, the 5th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Celebrity Golf Tournament raised over $50,000 Friday afternoon at the Penn State Blue Course, setting a new record for the event.

Coaches Vs. Cancer is an organization dedicated to fighting cancer through efforts to increase support for research, patient services, and prevention education among the fans of college basketball. In its five years, the event has generated over $175,000 dollars.

All who contribute to Coaches vs. Cancer are helping the American Cancer Society save more lives and diminish suffering from cancer. The money generated by Coaches vs. Cancer offers hope to people in local communities by funding programs that help those facing a cancer diagnosis. All support that is given will further progress toward better treatment options and lower incidence and mortality rates thanks to prevention and early detection programs.
