Memorial Scholarship Fund Established For Kevin Dare

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; February 25, 2002 - A memorial scholarship fund has been established in memory of Penn State student-athlete Kevin Dare, who died Saturday.

Dare, 19, died as a result of a head injuries when he fell to the ground while competing in the pole vault at the Big Ten Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships in Minneapolis.

A sophomore from State College, Dare won the pole vault at the United States Track and Field Junior National Championships last June, winning the event by clearing 16-6 3/4.

As a member of the State College Area High School team, Dare won the 2000 PIAA state championship in the pole vault. He also played football for the Little Lions.

In lieu of flowers, the Dare family has requested that contributions in memory of Kevin be sent to:
