Penn State Women's Athletics Celebrates 40th Anniversary: "A Legacy and A Future Logo" Unveiled

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.; October 13, 2003 - Marking its 40th Anniversary of Women's Athletics on the University Park campus, the Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics Department today unveiled the logo today that will correspond with the year-long celebration of women's sports at the University. The celebration will culminate with a weekend of festivities from April 30-May 2 on the University Park campus.

"We are very excited and very proud to be marking an anniversary for our department that is tied in with such a rich tradition of success and such a bright future to come," said Penn State Athletics Director Tim Curley. "We hope that this will be an event that brings our former women letterwinners back to campus to celebrate both their contributions to Penn State athletics and applaud the efforts of today's Nittany and Lady Lions."

Events for the year-long celebration will be publicized once finalized, and will include both individual sport activities as well as group activities. A celebration banquet will highlight the 40th Anniversary weekend's slate on Saturday night, May 1, in the Bryce Jordan Center.

"Celebrating these first 40 years of Penn State Athletics is a very important, extremely gratifying event for so many people," said Penn State Associate Athletic Director Susan Delaney-Scheetz. "It will give Penn State a chance to look back on the countless successes of these first 40 years of women's athletics here while looking forward to what exciting things can be done to continue that legacy. Former teammates can reunite and mark the incredible part they played in Penn State women's athletics' impressive tradition and how it led to the successes of today as well as future triumphs to come."
