GREENSBORO, N.C.; May 26, 2006 ?C Senior and All-American Jennifer Leatherman (Yellville, Ark.) finished sixth in the shot put to begin scoring for the Lion women at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional, hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. The Penn State women??s outdoor track and field team is currently in 19th place after the first day of competition. Leatherman threw a mark of 51-04 ? (15.66), scoring three points.
Redshirt-junior Briene Simmons (Decatur, Ga) qualified to compete in the 800-meter tomorrow afternoon with a time of 2:06.83. Redshirt-junior sprinter and All-American Shana Cox (Westbury, N.Y.) finished second to qualify for the 400-meter dash tomorrow afternoon with a time of 52.71.
The regional is being held at Irwin Belk Track inside Aggie stadium. N.C. A&T will become the first Historically Black College or University to host a NCAA track regional. Competition continues Saturday morning at 11 a.m. with field events.
