Four Members of the Penn State Women?' Outdoor Track and Field Team Qualify for the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Six members of the Penn State women's outdoor track and field team will compete at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Redshirt-sprinter Shana Cox will compete in the 400-meter dash at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships run concurrently June 21-25.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; June 19, 2006 ?C Six members of the Penn State women??s outdoor track and field team will have the honor of competing at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships and the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The events will take place concurrently June 21-25, at the IU Michael A. Carroll Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.

Sophomore Dominique Blake (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman Aleesha Barber (Decatur, Ga.) are set to compete at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 400-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Blake qualified with a time of 54.73. Barber placed with a time of 13.64.

All-Americans Shana Cox (Westbury, N.Y.), Molly Landreth (Newburyport, Mass.) and Jennifer Leatherman (Yellville, Ark.) will have the opportunity to compete in their best events at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. At the 2004 Junior National Championships, Cox finished third in the 200-meter dash, earning her Junior All-America honors and a spot on the World Junior Championship team. Now a redshirt-junior, Cox will have the chance to compete in the 400-meter dash on the senior level, qualifying with a time of 51.30. A senior, Landreth qualified for the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.45. After qualifying with a mark of 219??01?? (66.78 meters), Leatherman, a senior, will compete in the hammer.

Redshirt-junior Briene Simmons (Decatur, Ga) will also appear at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She will compete in the 800-meter run with a qualifying time of 2:04.72.

The junior championships serve as the selection meet for the IAAF World Cup of Athletics. The outdoor championships serve as the selection meet for the World Junior Championships in Beijing, China. ESPN2 will air portions of the events June 24 from 6-8 p.m. (EST) and June 25 from 5-7 p.m (EST).
