4.10.2006Academic Achievement Awards Banquet Honors Student-Athletes

The 19th annual Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) Academic Achievement Awards Banquet recognized the outstanding academic performances by Penn State's student-athletes. Held on April 10, 2006, at the Bryce Jordan Center, the event was co-sponsored by the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB) and the Morgan Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes (MASCSA). Dr. Jim Martin, a four-time Academic All-American and four-time All-American in wrestling, was the featured speaker for the evening.

The Varsity 'S' Club annually awards two athletic teams, one men's and one women's, for their superlative GPAs during the previous academic year. Proudly accepting their awards this year were the Men's Golf and Women's Swimming and Diving, which also won the Morgan Center's overall Team GPA Award with an outstanding 3.44 team GPA.

The Nittany Lion Club presented "True Grit" Awards to Aslyn Satterfield (Women's Gymnastics) and Grady Renfrow (Men's Soccer).

A total of 253 Penn State student-athletes were named as Big Ten Academic All-Conference Honorees during the 2004-2005 academic year. The women's athletic teams had a combined GPA of 3.27, while the men's teams averaged a 2.96. The average GPA for all Penn State varsity athletic teams was 3.11.

One again, Penn State has followed the mantra "Success With Honor." Award winners are proudly wearing their "Scholar Athlete" tee shirts around campus.
