PHILADELPHIA, Pa. September 23, 2006 ?C Action continued for the Nittany Lions women??s tennis team today at the Cissie Leary Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa., with Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) winning twice and advancing to the consolation final.
Holzberg defeated Minnesota??s Karina Chiarelli (6-1, 3-6, 10-4) before going on to beat Cornell??s Nisha Suda (6-4, 6-3).
??Holzberg was gaining momentum with each match today after playing with Abraham in doubles,?? head coach Buffy Baker said. ??We look forward to seeing her play in the consolation draw tomorrow.??
Also in singles, Sasha Abraham (Hyderabad, India) posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Minnesota??s Alex Seaton. Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) was beaten by Danielle Mousseau (Minnesota), 6-3, 1-6, 10-5, while Katelyn BeVard (McLean, Va.) lost to Columbia??s Sydney Murray (6-2, 6-4).
In doubles action, Abraham and Holzberg teamed up to defeat Minnesota??s Ida Malmberg and Tijana Koprivica, 9-7, while BeVard and Shular lost to Minnesota??s Lindsay Risebrough and Alex Seaton, 8-6.
Holzberg, Abraham and BeVard will begin play tomorrow at 9 a.m.
