University Park, Pa.; September 24, 2006?C After the third and final round of the Nittany Lion Invitational, Penn State finished in first place, with a total team score of 63-over 927. Washington and Yale tied for second, ten strokes behind, with scores of 73-over 937.
Senior Evelyn Paik finished in first place, with a three-round score of eight-over 224, earning her first career individual title. Paik shot one-under par on the front nine of the third round and shot one-over 73 for the round.
Lindsay Hong of Yale earned second place, five strokes behind Paik. Hong shot one-under 71 in the final round and was the only golfer in the tournament to shoot under par in a round.
Junior Christin Pacacha shot four-over 76, with a final score of 19-over 235. Junior Megan Padua also shot 19-over 235, earning ninth place along with Pacacha. Only one stroke behind, senior Maggie Lester shot 20-over 236 for the tournament.
Sophomore Brittany Fisher finished the tournament in sixth place, shooting 18-over 234. Freshman Katherine Murphy shot six-over 78, giving her a three-round score of 31-over 247. Emily Pavesich and Michele Romano also competed as individuals and finished shooting 38-over 254 and 41-over 257, respectively.
Penn State also finished first in birdies and par three scoring. The Nittany Lions had 25 birdies for the tournament. Paik came in first place overall for par three scoring.
This was the first win for the Nittany Lions since the Bonnie Hoover Invitational at James Madison last spring.
The women??s golf team will next compete in the Mercedes- Benz Championship in Knoxville, Tenn. on October 13-15.
