Nittany Lions Conclude Play at Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. October 1, 2006 - The women??s tennis team concluded action at the Furman Fall Classic Sunday with the Nittany Lions coming up short in all six of their singles matches.

Andreea Niculescu (Montreal, Qu??bec) lost a heartbreaking three-set decision to Wisconsin??s Chelsea Nusslock (7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-2), Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) fell to North Carolina??s Alex Jurewitz (6-4, 6-3) and Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) came up short against Tennessee??s Samantha Orlin (6-4, 6-1).

Other matches Sunday saw Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) lose to UT??s Zsofia Zuber (6-0, 6-2), Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Ontario) fall to Furman??s Christin Thompson (6-1, 6-3) and Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) drop a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 to South Carolina??s Christyn Lucas.

??In reality, we played some of the top tennis players in the country,?? said head coach Buffy Baker. ??We needed this exposure; it will only help us in the long run.??

The Nittany Lions will be back in action next Saturday for the New York City Invitational in Flushing, N.Y.
