UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Oct. 17, 2006- After recording two shutouts this past weekend against Minnesota and Ohio State, freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has been named Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week. This is the first honor of her young career.
Following 386:09 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, Naeher has posted shutouts in the last four games for the Nittany Lions, who are now in first place in the Big Ten.
The Seymour, Connecticut native now has six shutouts on the season helping Penn State to a 10-3-3 overall record.
Penn State sees its last Big Ten regular season action this weekend when Wisconsin comes to Jeffrey Field on Friday, Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. The first 500 fans at the Lions?? contest vs. the Badgers will receive a soccer mini pennant.
Due to other events in the area that afternoon, fans coming to the game are encouraged to enter the parking lot on the University Drive side nearest to Curtain Road and the Bryce Jordan Center and stay in the grass area. The women's game will be followed by an 8 p.m. contest for the men's team vs. Indiana at Jeffrey Field. Fans are encouraged to wear your blue and white, as the men's game will be nationally televised.
On Sunday, Oct. 22, Penn State will celebrate Senior Day vs. Northwestern with the game beginning at noon. Penn State fans are encouraged to arrive early as Nittany Lion autograph books will be given out to a limited number of fans in attendance.
