Senior post player Amanda Brown (Kennett Square, Pa.) earned her second Big Ten Player of the Week award of the season after leading the Lady Lions to two victories last week, including an upset win over #23/21 Michigan State. She is the first Lady Lion to win the conference??s weekly accolade twice in a season since Tanisha Wright claimed back-to-back awards during the 2004-05 campaign. Brown accounted for 20.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in two games last week. She was also a perfect 12-for-12 from the field and 17-for-20 from the free throw line.
Brown dominated in the Lady Lions?? 69-58 win over #23/21 Michigan State Thursday as she posted her eighth double-double of the season with 27 points and 14 rebounds. She also added a career-high tying five assists to go along with two blocked shots and a pair of steals. The senior post was 8-for-8 from the field and 11-for-13 from the charity stripe against the Spartans. In Sunday??s 78-71 come-from-behind win over Iowa, Brown notched her league-leading sixth double-double in Big Ten play and ninth double-double overall with 14 points and 13 rebounds. She also accumulated two assists and two steals in the win.
Brown is the team??s leading scorer at a 14.1 per game clip, which is also 10th in the Big Ten. She is second in the conference in rebounding (9.9), third in field goal percentage (.578) and fifth blocked shots (1.6). On Sunday, the Montreal native became just the third player in Lady Lion history, joining Andrea Garner and Rashana Barnes, to have 1,000 career points, 700 rebounds and 150 blocked shots.
After a rematch with #23/21 Michigan State in East Lansing on Thursday, the Lady Lions return home for THINK PINK Day against Wisconsin on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. Fans in attendance will receive a pink replica Amanda Brown jersey while supplies last.
