UNIVERSITY PARK, PA; February 17, 2007 ?C After a strong showing Friday against the Syracuse Orange, the Penn State Women??s Tennis team (3-4) continued their hot streak by capturing their second (6-1) win on the weekend against the Mountaineers of West Virginia Saturday at the Sarni Indoor Tennis Center.
Penn State once again swept doubles, with senior Sasha Abraham (Hyderabad, India) and sophomore Lauren Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) defeating Natalia Prinz and Stacey Percival (8-2). Continuing the winning streak was junior Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) and freshman Sarah Lotto (Toronto, Canada), who topped Kelly Walsh and Monica Lyskawa 8-5. Finishing doubles action was sophomore Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) who beat Gabriela Blaskovicova and Stephanie LaFortune (8-5).
The Nittany Lions continued their success in singles, with senior Andreea Niculescu (Montreal, Quebec) topping Prinz (4-6, 6-1, 6-0). Abraham defeated Percival in two straight sets of 6-4 in second singles, while Dohanics came out on top against LaFortune (7-5, 7-6 (6)). McCarthy had a strong showing, defeating Walsh (6-1, 6-0), while Lotto topped Constantine (6-1, 6-4). The lone lose for PSU on the day came from Holzberg, who fought a tough battle with Lyskawa, ultimately falling 6-0, 6-3.
