UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 8, 2007 ?C The Penn State women??s tennis team (4-6, 0-1) will continue their Big Ten season Friday when they host the Wisconsin Badgers at the Penn State Tennis Center at 5 p.m.
The Badgers (3-8, 0-3) are traveling to Happy Valley after a tough 7-0 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes last weekend in Madison. Penn State is coming off of a 1-1 weekend in West Virginia, falling to Marshall 4-3 on March 2, but topping Middle Tennessee State 6-1 the following day. Highlighting the weekend was sophomore Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and freshman Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.), who succeeded in both singles and doubles. The pair defeated Stephanie Parkison and Pooja Kommireddi (8-2), while Dohanics earned a 6-2, 6-1 ??W?? against Parkison later in the day. McCarthy topped Kommireddi in a hard-fought match, defeating her 7-6 in the first set, before falling 6-2 in the second and coming back to win the third set tiebreaker, 7-4.
Following this weekend??s action with Wisconsin, the Nittany Lions will take a week to prepare for a doubleheader with Toledo and Lehigh on Sunday, March 18, beginning at 10 a.m. All home matches take place at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center off of Bigler Road, and admission is free.
