UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.: April 10, 2007 ?C Following regional-qualifying performances in both the 400-meters and the 4x400-meter relay last weekend, Nittany Lion sprint-star Shana Cox (Westbury, N.Y.) has been named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this year.
Cox took top honors in the quarter mile at the Auburn Tiger Classic last weekend, clocking a season-best and regional-qualifying 52.41. Cox??s performance is the fastest run in the Big Ten this spring, as well as the third fastest mark in the NCAA.
The junior would go on to help the 4x400 squad improve its time to 3:34.81, also the top mark in the Big Ten this season. Cox is the defending conference champion in the 200-, 400-, 4x100, and 4x400, and is also the reigning east region gold medalist in the quarter.
Cox and the Nittany Lions remain on the road this weekend, traveling to the highly regarded Sea Ray Relays, hosted by the University of Tennessee, in Knoxville, Tenn. Competition starts on Friday, April 13, and concludes on Saturday, April 14.
