Women?' Tennis To Host Michigan State on Saturday

Katelyn BeVard, along with fellow seniors Sasha Abraham, Andreea Niculescu, and Kristine Harclerode will play in their last home match of their careers Saturday when the Nittany Lions host Michigan State at 11 a.m. The final match of the home season will take place at the Sarni Tennis Center off of Bigler Road, and admission is free.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 12, 2007 ?C The Penn State women??s tennis team (8-10, 2-5) will host the Michigan State Spartans in their final home match of the 2006-07 season Saturday at the Sarni Tennis Center off of Bigler Road, and admission is free.

The Nittany Lions are coming off of a 4-3 win over Illinois is Champaign, Ill. April 7, following by a near-upset win on April 8 against then-ranked No. 46 Purdue, falling 4-3. Senior Sasha Abraham (Hyderabad, India) had a breakthrough weekend and was recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Week. Abraham succeeded in both singles and doubles against both Midwest opponents. In Champaign, Ill., on April 7, Abraham defeated Momei Qu 6-3, 6-2 in the second singles spot and then teamed up with junior Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) to top Shivani Dave and Alejandra MezaCuadra, 8-1 in doubles action. The following day, in the Nittany Lions?? near upset of the nationally-ranked Boilermakers, Abraham beat Brooke Beier in a thrilling 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 match. She and Shular also topped Neela Vaez and Cigdem Duru 8-5 in second doubles.

Also playing well for the Blue and White against Purdue was sophomore Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.), who defeated Anna Dzeva (3-6, 6-1, 6-4), as well as freshman Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.), who topped Alejandra Boeker (6-2, 6-3).

Following this weekend??s action, Penn State will prepare for their final weekend of regular season play when they battle Indiana in Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday, April 21 at 10 a.m., followed by a match in Columbus, Ohio against Ohio State on Sunday, April 22 at 11 a.m.
