Director of Track and Field Beth Alford-Sullivan Inducted into two Hall of Fames

Penn State Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Beth Alford-Sullivan, whose Nittany Lion teams recently posted third (women) and fourth (men) at the Big Ten Track and Field Championships, has recently been inducted into the Classic Lake Conference and the Hopkins High School Hall of Fames, both in Minnetonka, Minn.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.: May 18, 2007 - Penn State Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Beth Alford-Sullivan, whose Nittany Lion teams recently posted third (women) and fourth (men) at the Big Ten Track and Field Championships, has recently been inducted into the Classic Lake Conference and the Hopkins High School Hall of Fames, both in Minnetonka, Minn.

As a high school athlete at Hopkins High, Sullivan competed in track and field and cross country and was a member of the state championship cross country team in 1983, and the fourth-place 4x800-meter relay at the state level. She was also a track and field team captain as a prep, before captaining the Minnesota Golden Gophers cross country squad as a collegiate.

Presently in her eighth season at Penn State, and first as coach of both the men??s and women??s programs, Sullivan??s resume include coaching stints at Mankato State, Southeast Missouri State, and Stanford before joining the Nittany Lions in 1999.

Winning a Coach of the Year citation more than a dozen times, Sullivan was named NCAA Women??s Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1996, and won the Big Ten Coach of the Year award in 2004.
