Wheaton, Ill., July, 13, 2007 - Penn State golfer Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) reached the quarterfinals of the 2007 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Wheaton, Ill., before falling in match play action Friday.
Rohanna posted a 2 up win over Christian Raynor in the round of 16 to reach the quarterfinals of the tournament that started with over 150 of the U.S.'s top amateur golfers. On Friday, he fell to Colt Knost, 2 up, to end his run.
Fellow Penn Stater Kevin Foley (Sommerville, N.J.) also advanced to the round of 16 before falling 2 & 1 to Aaron Goldberg.
Rohanna posted a 1 up victory over Conor McMahon in his first round match before blowing by Cameron Knight in the second round with a 6 & 5 victory. Foley posted a 2 & 1 victory over Eddie Olson, who tied for second in stroke play with a 3-under, in his first round contest. He then posted a 3 & 2 victory over Brent Paladino in the second round.
The championship continues through July 14 at the Catigny Golf Club's par 72, 7,048-yard course.
