UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Penn State women's basketball coach Coquese Washington will be a guest on two radio shows this week. She will appear on Speaking of Sports with Jed Donahue on the Sports Jam Radio Network on Wednesday, August 8 at 5:30 p.m., and will visit with Kevin Nelson and Pat Boland on WRSC Morning News (1390 AM) on Friday, August 10 at 8:30 a.m. Speaking of Sports can be heard on more than 15 stations across the state, including locally on WBLF 970 AM, on WTKT 1460 AM in Harrisburg and on WLPA 1490 AM in the Lancaster area.
Additionally, Penn State Athletics Director Tim Curley will be on Speaking of Sports with Jed Donahue on Thursday, August 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Washington is entering her first season as Lady Lion head coach after eight seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame. During Washington's eight seasons on the bench in South Bend, Notre Dame amassed a 188-69 record with eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including four Sweet Sixteen runs. While at Notre Dame, Washington coached and developed three All-Americans and two Frances Naismith Pomeroy Award winners for the nation's top player 5-8 or under, including Niele Ivey and Megan Duffy. Washington also directed Alicia Ratay, who is the NCAA's career three-point field goal percentage leader.
The Lady Lions open the 2007-08 season as they host the WBCA/Basketball Travelers Classic at the Bryce Jordan Center November 9-11. Penn State will face Arizona on Nov. 9, before meeting Charlotte (Nov. 10) and in-state rival Pittsburgh (Nov. 11).
