Jen Long Named to Womensfieldhockey.com Weekly Honor Roll

Aug. 28, 2007

University Park, Pa. - A day after the Nittany Lion field hockey team swept the Big Ten's weekly awards, a third different Nittany Lion has garnered a weekly award. Junior defender Jen Long, who recorded three assists whose steady play on defense helped contribute to Penn State's two wins over ranked teams last weekend, was named to the weekly honor roll by the website womensfieldhockey.com.

The Doylestown, Pa. native assisted on half (three) of Penn State's six goals scored over two games last weekend and was also very strong on defense as Penn State allowed just two goals over the two games. Against Old Dominion on Saturday, Long assisted on the first Penn State goal of the year, which came just 6:16 into the game by Mallory Weisen. Then, on Sunday at Virginia, Long assisted on both of Kiersten Wood's goals, where were the game-tying and game-winning goals as Penn State rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit with three unanswered second half goals.

The Nittany Lions will continue their tough early-season schedule by hosting No. 5 Connecticut in their home opener next Sunday, September 2 at noon on AstroTurf Field.
