University Park, Pa. - Standout swimmers Kaitlin O'Brien and Pat Schirk of the Penn State swimming teams will throw out ceremonial first pitches at the State College Spikes game on Wednesday night, August 29 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park prior to the Spikes game against the Batavia Muckdogs at 7:05 p.m. O'Brien and Schirk recently returned from Chiba, Japan, where they both swam as a part of the U.S. National Team at the Japan International Grand Prix meet last week.
O'Brien, who is a two-time Big Ten champion and the school record holder in the 400 IM, placed seventh in the 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 400 IM at last month's U.S. Nationals, which qualified her for the U.S. National team for the meet in Japan. At the Grand Prix, she finished 10th in the 400 IM.
Schirk is the school record holder in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. He finished fifth at both of those events at U.S. Nationals, which qualified him for the U.S. National team. He then placed fourth in the 200 back.
