Three Penn State Golfers Qualify For U.S. Amateur Championship

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA., AUG. 9, 2007 - Penn State golfers Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.), T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) and Tommy McDonagh (Wilton, Conn.) have qualified to compete in the U.S. Amateur Championship to be played at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., Aug. 20-26. The U.S. Amateur is the oldest USGA Championship having first been held in 1895.

Rohanna, who reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Public Links Championship earlier this summer, posted a two-round total of 135 to finish second in sectional qualifying at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona, Pa. Howe finished second in qualifying at Blue Ridge Country Club in Harrisburg, Pa. after posting a two-round total of 142. McDonagh, who will join the Nittany Lion roster in the coming season, tied for second at the Country Club of New Canaan in New Canaan, Conn. with a two round total of 140.
