Lynch and Bourchier Advance to Finals in White Flight at UVA Fall Tennis Classic

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Junior Brendan Lynch (North Potomac, Md.) and freshman Eddie Bourchier (Tasmania, Australia) will meet one another in the finals of the White draw at the University of Virginia Fall Classic after advancing through the semifinals on Saturday.

Lynch knocked off White draw-No. 1-seed Alexander Ermakov of Harvard to secure a spot in the finals of the flight. Lynch snagged the first set by a score of 6-3. He then closed out the match with a 6-4 decision.

Meanwhile, Bourchier continued his impressive run through the draw with a straight-set victory over Princeton's George Carpeni in the semifinals. The Australian standout rolled over Carpeni by a score of 6-3, 6-3. The all Nittany Lion final will take place on Sunday.

Senior Michael James (Clifton, Va.) and sophomore Ryan Gormley (Las Vegas, Nev.) did not fair quite as well in their respective semifinal matches. James, who is ranked 35th in the ITA singles rankings, suffered a 7-6, 6-3 setback at the hands of VCU's Damien Lacombe in the Red draw.

Gormley dropped a three-set decision to Columbia's Bogdan Borta. After dominating the first set (6-0), Gormley lost back-to-back sets (7-5, 6-2) to fall out of the Orange singles draw.

In quarterfinal action, senior James Dwyer (Peachtree City, Ga.) fell to Binghamton's Sebastian Dietz (7-5, 4-6, 6-3) in the Green draw. Freshman Jamie Cox (Acworth, Ga.) suffered a three-set defeat to Princeton's Alex Vuckovic (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) in the quarterfinals of the Orange singles draw.

Freshman Jake Toole (Sharon, Mass.) was ousted by Elon's Cody Stauffer-MacDowell (2-6, 7-6(6), 10-7) in the consolation semifinals of the Gray singles draw.

In doubles action, James and junior Adam Slagter (Austin, Texas), who are the No. 3 seed in the A-1 draw, defeated the Harvard team of Michael Hayes and Lucien by a score of 8-5 in their first-round contest. James and Slagter, who are ranked 36th in the ITA doubles rankings, also knocked off the Duke team of Goulet and Price (8-5) to advance into the semifinals.

Joining James and Slagter in the semifinals of doubles play was the Nittany Lion team of Guillaume St-Maurice (Saint-Eustache, Quebec) and Gormley. The Nittany Lion duo defeated the Duke team of Alex Stone and Aaron Carpenter by a score of 8-4 in the first round of the B-2 draw. St-Maurice and Gormley followed that up with an 8-3 victory over the Radford team of Lloyd and Salec (8-3).

Bourchier and Dwyer knocked off Penn's Jason Pinsky and Justin Fox (8-6) in the A-2 draw. In the quarters, Bourchier and Dwyer suffered an 8-4 defeat to the North Carolina State duo of Cavaday and Weinacker.

In the B-1 draw, senior Chris Sherman (Edina, Minn.) and Lynch defeated Raviot Dhatt and Jake Goldberg by a score of 8-4. Sherman and Lynch then dropped an 8-4 decision to Harvard's Dan Nguyen and Evans (8-4).

Cox took the court in doubles action with Virginia's Leif Sunderland. Cox and Sunderland suffered and 8-3 setback to the William & Mary team of Kavi Sud and Sebastien Vidal in the B-2 doubles first round. In consolation action, Cox and Sunderland defeated the Princeton duo of Krueger-Wyman and Carpeni.
