UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - NO. 17 PENN STATE TRAVELS TO BUCKNELL FOR MID-WEEK CONTEST... The Nittany Lions (3-2-1) travel to Lewisburg, Pa., and will tangle with Bucknell (3-3-0) Wednesday night in a 7 p.m. contest. The game is one of the few that remains in the non-conference schedule for Penn State before they begin their Big Ten title defense on Sept. 30 vs. Illinois.
SERIES HISTORY VS. BUCKNELL... Last year, Penn State extended its unbeaten streak to 11-0 against Bucknell dating back to their first match in 1994. Penn State beat Bucknell at home last year 1-0. During the game, the Lions led in every statistical category including shots (24-3) and corner kicks (8-1), but the only goal of the game came on an unassisted goal in the 13th minute. The first time the two teams met was in 1994 when the Lions played Bucknell at home in a 2-0 victory.
NEXT UP... Penn State travels to No. 21 Notre Dame (2-3-1) Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. match-up live on ESPNU. The game is the third nationally televised contest for the Nittany Lions this year.
1-1 WEEKEND MOVES NITTANY LIONS BACK UP IN THE POLLS... A win over previously undefeated James Madison and a tie vs. then-No. 5 Texas A&M helped move the Nittany Lions back up in the polls, landing them at No. 17 in the NSCAA census and as high as No. 14 in the Soccer Buzz Poll.
SCHOEPFER PICKS UP NATIONAL, CONFERENCE HONORS... After the game-winning goal on Friday and the game-tying conversion on Sunday vs. No. 5 Texas A&M earned sophomore forward Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) earned Soccer America National Team of the Week as well as Big Ten Player of the Week.
