Zionsville, Ind. - For the second straight week, redshirt freshman T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) sits among the leaders with one round to play. This time, he's in a tie for second place at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.
Howe, who tied for seventh place last week at the Hartford Hawks Invitational in his first collegiate start, shot even-par 71 in both of his first two rounds. His two-round total of 142 puts him in a four-way tie for second place, five shots behind the leader, Indiana junior Seth Brandon.
Penn State is in third place at eight-over par after shooting rounds of 292 and 284 (576). The Nittany Lions posted the lowest second-round score of the 15-team field, finishing two shots lower than the next best team. The Big Ten Conference is displaying its talent, with Michigan sitting atop the leaderboard at one-over par (569), host team Indiana in second place at five-over par (573) and Penn State in third, just seven shots behind Michigan.
The 54-hole event is being played at the 7,195-yard, par-71 Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, Ind.
Senior Robert Rohanna (Waynesburg, Pa.) and sophomore Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.), both All-Big Ten Team selections last season, are tied for 20th place at four-over par. Rohanna fired rounds of 72 and 74 (146) while Foley posted rounds of 76 and 70 (146).
Despite shooting a 78 in the first round, sophomore Jim Markovitz (Bridgeville, Pa.) responded with a 69 in the second round, the second-best round of his collegiate career.
