Sophomore Striker Schoepfer Grabs Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week

Oct. 1, 2007

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After an explosive performance this week, sophomore striker Katie Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.) has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the week.

Schoepfer continued her offensive onslaught, scoring two goals in the Nittany Lions' mid-week game with Colgate and followed it up with Penn State's first goal of the day vs. Illinois helping to bring in its first conference win.

The striker's goal vs. the Fighting Illini marked her sixth-straight game that she has scored at least one point. Penn state is 5-0-1 since Schoepfer started her streak, including a tie vs. then-No. 5 Texas A&M and a win over then-No. 21 Notre Dame in South Bend.

The sophomore has six goals so far in 2007, just two away from her freshman year total of eight with the Nittany Lions only 10 games into the season.

Schoepfer has picked up three other honors so far this season including being named to Soccer Buzz's Elite Team, the Soccer America Team of the Week, and the Big Ten's Offensive Player of the Week after the Texas A&M and James Madison games.

The Nittany Lions hit the road for a two-game Big Ten road stretch this weekend. Penn State starts at Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 5 for a 7 p.m. match before heading to Northwestern for a noon kick-off on Sunday, Oct. 7.
