Women's Volleyball's Christa Harmotto and Wrestling's David Erwin Named Student-Athletes of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - For the second time this season, junior middle hitter Christa Harmotto (Aliquippa, Pa.) garnered the honor of being Penn State Female Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts over the weekend. After going 4-0, sophomore wrestler David Erwin (Urbana, Ohio) joined Harmotto, and was named this week's Male Student-Athlete of the Week.

Behind Harmotto's efforts, the Penn State women's volleyball team capped off its Big Ten season with a perfect 20-0 record, dropping only six individual games along the way. At Ohio State Wednesday night, the junior middle hitter recorded six kills on .308 hitting with four digs and a match-high six blocks. The Lions swept the Buckeyes 3-0.

In the 3-1 victory at Michigan on Saturday night, Harmotto racked up 15 kills, one off her season high and two off her career high, also hitting .565. She tallied three digs and a match-high nine blocks, including three solo efforts. For the weekend, Harmotto recorded 3.00 kills per game on .472 hitting with seven digs (1.00 dpg) and 15 total ?blocks (2.14 bpg).

Erwin recorded a 4-0 mark to win the 2007 Mat-Town U.S.A. title at 174 pounds over the weekend. The Nittany Lion sophomore improved to 9-1 on the year and claimed his second Open tournament title this November. Erwin was also victorious at the ESU Open. Erwin's run included two major decisions, a 12-2 win in the quarters and a 12-4 victory in the semifinals. His title bout victory was a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over teammate Mark Friend.

Erwin captured the Mat-Town U.S.A. title at 174 pounds over the weekend
