Head Women's Tennis Coach Dawna Prevette Announces First Signee

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State head women's tennis coach Dawna Prevette announced that she has signed her first recruit since being named head coach in August. Monika Mical, who hails from Stalowa Wola, Poland, will be starting her Nittany Lion career in the fall of 2008.

"I'm an excited to have Monika join our program," said Prevette. "Not only is she a great athlete and tennis player, but she is an incredible person with a fantastic work ethic."

Mical will join the Nittany Lions with a long list of accolades including 17 national tournament wins. One of her first major wins came in 2001 when she was part of a team win at the U12 Polish Championships. Mical has also been a force in doubles competition winning the U14 Polish Championship in 2003, the U16 in 2005, the U18 and U21 in 2006 and the U21 again in 2007.

The Nittany Lions will begin their spring season on Tuesday, Jan. 22, at home versus the Bison of Bucknell. The match will take place at 5 p.m. at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center. From there the team will travel across the country to take on the Pioneers of the University of Denver on Jan. 27.
