Dec. 17, 2007

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - Sophomore guard Tyra Grant (Youngstown, Ohio) was selected as the Big Ten Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocked shots in two Lady Lion wins last week. She is the first Lady Lion to win weekly honors since Amanda Brown on Jan. 29, 2007.

In Thursday's 84-77 victory over Mississippi at the Bryce Jordan Center, Grant had a game-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field. Her 24 tallies are her highest scoring output of the season and lifted her past the 600-point plateau for her career. Grant also dished out a career-high six assists and blocked a career-best three shots in the win. She also pulled down five rebounds and registered a steal.

Grant continued her solid play in the 64-55 win at Bucknell Saturday night as she scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half. It was the third 20-point performance of the season and the 10th of her career. She also pulled down six rebounds and blocked a shot in the win to lead the Lady Lions to a 9-3 record in non-conference play.
