Men's Volleyball Ranked First In EIVA Preseason Poll

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 2008 Penn State men's volleyball team has been voted by the coaches of the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) to repeat as EIVA Champions in the upcoming season.

The Nittany Lions earned 36 total points and six of the seven first-place votes as George Mason picked up 30 points and one first-place vote. Princeton (24), Saint Francis (20), Juniata (15), East Stroudsburg (12) and NJIT (10) rounded out the Tait Division poll.

Penn State returns 10 players from last season's 22-8 EIVA Champion and NCAA semifinal squad and also brings in six newcomers to the team. The Nittany Lions have captured nine consecutive league titles and finished as national runners-up in 2006. Penn State opens the 2008 slate at the Outrigger Invitational, taking on Hawaii, UCLA and Ball State on Jan. 3-5 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
