UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The Lady Lions (6-3) face off against its second-straight Big East foe when Georgetown (5-1) visits the Bryce Jordan Center on Sunday at 3 p.m. Sunday's game marks the return of former Lady Lion Terri Williams-Flournoy to Happy?Valley. Williams-Flournoy helped Penn State to three NCAA?Tournament appearances during her four-year career (1988-91) and was a member of the first team in program history to earn a #1 national ranking.
Sunday is also Toys for Tots Day for the Lady Lions. Fans can donate a new, unwrapped toy at the Bryce Jordan Center gates and will receive a $5 adult ticket or a free youth ticket for the game. Season ticket holders who donate a toy at the game can enter to win an autographed Lady Lion holiday ornament.
The game will be broadcast on the Big?Ten Network with Mike Crispino and former Illinois head coach Theresa Grentz calling the action. The game can also be heard on the Penn State Sports Radio Network with Jerry Fisher (play-by-play) and Chris Morelli (analyst) describing play. Locally the game will air on the radio on WMAJ. The Lady Lions are 2-1 all-time against Georgetown, including a 52-44 victory in Washington D.C. last season. Penn?State is 1-1 versus the Hoyas in Happy Valley.
Last time against the Hoyas, Kam Gissendanner (Clairton, Pa.) had 12 points, including a pair of critical jumpers with the shot clock winding down, to lift the Lady Lions to a 52-44 victory over Georgetown on Dec. 17, 2006. Amanda Brown added seven points and six rebounds in the win.
The Lady Lions fell to Syracuse in their last game, 72-53, despite a game-high 18 points from Mashea Williams (Erie, Pa.). Gissendanner posted her third double-digit rebounding performance of the season with a game-best 10 boards in the loss.
Penn State is the only school to have four players ranked in the Top 20 in the Big Ten in scoring, led by Tyra Grant (Youngstown, Ohio) at a 14.4 per game clip, which is eighth in the Big Ten. Williams is second on the squad and 11th in the conference in scoring with a 14.0 average, while Brianne O'Rourke (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (12.3) and Gissendanner (11.9) round out the double-digit scorers for Penn State. O'Rourke is handing out 4.1 assists per game, which is third in the Big Ten.
After losing their season-opener to Hampton, the?Hoyas have reeled off five straight wins. Kieraah Marlow leads the team in scoring at a 17.3 per game clip. She also pulls down 5.0 rebounds per game. Brina Pollock is second on the squad in scoring, averaging 9.3 points per game.
The Lady Lions close out their two-game homestand against Mississippi on Thursday,?Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Penn State rounds out its non-conference schedule at Bucknell on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.
