The 14th-ranked Penn State women's gymnastics team opens up the 2008 home season on Saturday, Jan. 19 when it hosts Big Ten rival No. 6 Michigan at 7:00 p.m. at Rec Hall. The meet will be televised on the Big Ten Network and aired on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 6:00 p.m. ET. Live scoring will be available at www.GoPSUsports.com.
The Series: Penn State vs. Michigan
Penn State trails Michigan, 15-5, in a series that began in 1966. The last meeting was at the 2007 Big Ten Championships at Rec Hall, where the Wolverines edged out the Nittany Lions by a slim 196.475-196.575 margin. The last Penn State win in the series was a 195.900-195.525 Nittany Lion victory on Feb. 16, 2007 in Ann Arbor, Mich. That meeting marked the first time the Nittany Lions claimed a regular-season meeting since Feb. 13, 1988.
Rohrbaugh Opens 2008 Season With A First
Sophomore Casey Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove, Pa.) captured her first career all-around title with a 38.525 at Pittsburgh on Jan. 11 to open the 2008 season. It was the first time Rohrbaugh had competed collegiately in the all-around. She also earned Penn State Female Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts.
Up Next Penn State takes to the road to face No. 8 Arkansas on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Nittany Lions then return home to host West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 p.m. in a contest that is a double-dual with the Lion men's gymnastics team against Minnesota.
