UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Men's volleyball junior opposite Ryan Sweitzer (Lancaster, Pa.) has been named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Player of the Week, conference officials announced. This is the first career award for Sweitzer and the second of the season for the Nittany Lions, as junior middle hitter Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) was honored last week.

Sweitzer aided the third-ranked Nittany Lions in capturing two important wins against MIVA opponents while improving to 6-0 for the first time under head coach Mark Pavlik. Against Ball State last Friday, Sweitzer fell one kill shy of his career high with 14 put-aways and added two aces, six digs and four blocks. At No. 9 Ohio State the following night, the junior set a new career best with a match-high 19 kills on .424 hitting with one ace, five digs and three blocks. For the weekend, Sweitzer averaged 4.71 kills per game on .328 hitting with three aces, 11 digs and seven blocks.

Penn State remains on the road, traveling to EIVA foe Saint Francis on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions return home to host Mount Olive College on Monday, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Rec Hall.
