AUSTIN, Texas - Closing out a stormy weekend, the Penn State University softball team (0-3) fell to #12 University of Michigan 6-2. Freshman Desi Giordano (West Caldwell, N.J./Caldwell) registered her first career hit in the form of a two-run homerun. This also marked the first runs scored by the Nittany Lions this season.
Senior Ashley Esparza (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro) began the game with three-straight strikeouts and succumbed to a number of errors that cost PSU the game.
Junior's Sam Hovanec (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and Danielle Kinley (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) along with Esparza and Giordano were the only Nittany Lions to register a hit.
The Wolverines got up on the Nittany Lions early with a solo homerun in the second and then used a few defensive errors by PSU to bring in three more in the sixth. They would register their final two runs in the seventh before the blast by Giordano.
The Nittany Lions will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Greenville, N.C. to compete in the Eastern Carolina University tournament.
