The Nittany Lions travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the second time in program history to take part in Easton Purple & Gold Challenge. PSU's only other trip to Louisiana was for the 2001 NCAA Regionals hosted by LSU.
The Nittany Lions will open up competition on February 29 with an 11:15 a.m. start against the University of South Alabama Jaguars followed by a match-up with the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 1 they will continue with match-ups at 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. versus Southern Miss and LSU, respectively.
Series History
PSU's first game of the tournament will be against a first-time opponent in the form of South Alabama. This is only the second season for the South Alabama program who went 36-23 in their first season as a team. The Jaguars are a member of the Sun Belt Conference in which the Nittany Lions hold an all-time record of 5-5.
Up next will be Tulsa who again will be a first time opponent for the Nittany Lions. Tulsa is a member of Conference USA in which the Nittany Lions hold a record of 16-7. The third opponent on the weekend will be Southern Miss who the Nittany Lions hold a 2-0 record against. Their last meeting came in 2004 at the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas in which PSU won 8-4.
The final scheduled match-up is against the host school, LSU. The Nittany Lions have never beaten the Tigers in their previous two meetings including the 2001 NCAA Regional.
