Nittany Lion Golfers Fourth At Palmetto Intercollegiate

Aiken, S.C., March 10, 2008 - The Penn State men's golf team stands fourth after two rounds of play at the the 11th Annual Palmetto Intercollegiate, part of the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship series, held at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.

Penn State shot rounds of 294 and 303 in its opening tournament of the spring season to post a two-round total of 37-over par 597 and stand tied for fourth with Elon University in the 15-team field. Tennessee Chattanooga leads the team race at 8-over par 568 with on round remaining on Tuesday.

Penn State sophomore T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) led the Nittany Lions firing rounds of 74 and 72 on the par-70, 6,565-yard Palmetto Golf Club. His 6-over par total of 146 was good for 12th place. Virginia Tech's Jurrian vander Vaart and Chattanooga's J.T. Clendenin were tied a top the individual standings at 1-over par 141.

Sophomore Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.), the 2007 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, fired rounds of 73 and 76 for a total of 9-over par 149 good for 20th. Senior Harvin Groft (State College, Pa.) was 26th after rounds of 73 and 77 for a 10-over par 150. Senior Robert Rohanna (Waynesboro, Pa.), a first team All-Big Ten honoree last year, opened the year with rounds of 74 and 78 and stood 36th at 12-over par 152. Sophomore Mitch Van Zelfden (Marietta, Ga.) shot 77, 80 and stood 17-over par 157 good for 55th place.
